2x – 1×3 Inverted Bow w/ Notch in 26 Black (Element ID 6328095).The set comes with a ton of different parts, but not very many new or recolored parts. A separate instruction booklet woudl allow you to share the experience with younger builders. Even though this is an 18+ set, this stage could easily be marked ages 8+ and packaged in a small box within the larger box. The LEGO Group is missing an opportunity to make larger sets like this more fun for the whole family. (Stage 9: 20 minutes, Stage 10: 20 minutes, Stage 11: 10 minutes, Stage 12: 25 minutes, Stage 13: 20 minutes.) Stage 14: Horse-drawn cart I think it is meant as a nod to Classic Castle, which used a lot of primary colors, but it really detracts from the finished model.īuild Time 1 hour, 35 minutes. I don’t mind the use of 151 Sand Green along the ridge of the roof (which I’m guessing is meant to be moss), but the 23 Bright Blue Blue color breaks the realism as it is too saturated and doesn’t match any realistic building materials for a modest building/home of the medieval period. The second concern with the roof is that it loses the realism of the original fan submission. This would not have been an issue if these similar colors came in unique parts, but they both are provided in 2×3 Pentagonal Tile (part 22385). My first issue is that it’s easy to make mistakes while building the roof, because it uses four colors, two of which are difficult to distinguish in the building instructions: 140 Earth Blue Dark Blue and 26 Black. I did want to discuss the roof a bit more now that it’s complete. Stages 12 and 13 complete the two sides of the roof and finish the chimney. In the case of this set, we have 14 bags which they recommend that you build as three phases, matching roughly to the three floors of the building. Some of the larger sets have started to not only number the bags but offer a summary of the main phases of the build process before getting started. (Learn more about decoding LEGO box codes.) Build Process The box seal was marked 46S0, indicating that it was produced the week starting on Monday Novemin Kladno, Czech Republic. Stage 13: 1x Extra Large bag (marked 345S0).Stage 12: 1x Extra-Large bag (marked 345S0).Stage 8: 1x Extra-Large bag (marked 445S0).1x un-numbered bag (containing 3x 16×16 Plates, and 1x 6×16 Plate.Instruction manual (in bag marked 6358205).I’m also interested to see how much this set builds on the classic LEGO Castle style with the detailing and minifigures. Even with the 18+ age rating, I suspect they decided that brighter colors and a smaller size make it a more commercially viable set. More importantly, I’m concerned that some of the soul of fan designer Clemens Fiedler’s original idea was lost in translation. I was also eager to explore how these “weathered” building techniques would work in an official set, but the final design doesn’t look as crumbly. The brighter colors, especially in the roof distract from my stereotype of a medieval aesthetic. I do not care for the revised design, especially the brighter colors and the less weathered appearance. This includes a reduced size, brighter colors, a more rectangular shape, a less weathered appearance, and a more prominent exterior staircase. Photos of this set leaked on January 2, leading to a vigorous debate amongst the LEGO fan community about the upcoming set because it looks significantly different than the original submission.
